Slow Kids Gets Fast Cash
NEW YORK (OCN) — Would you be disappointed if the DOT (Department of Transportation) placed a “Slow Children” sign in front of your child’s special education school? Well, that is exactly what happened in 2006 and it outraged the parents and school that they filed suit.
“We meant no harm by it” says Robert Houser, PR for the DOT. “It was placed to reduce incidents that has been steadily climbing since 2005.”
Parents were concerned and had petition the city to do something about the traffic incidents so their kids could be safe but thought the DOT would have taken a much different approach.

“They could have lower the speed limit or put up speed bumps” says one parent “but this is ridiculous and in bad taste.” The school and parents filed suit and won a judgement of $750,000 plus the DOT will have to make other improvements along Main Street.
